2019 jährte sich die Erste Weltumsegelung zum 500. Mal. Im Jahr 1519 begaben sich Juan Sebastian Elcano und Ferdinand Magellan mit ihrer Flotte aus fünf Schiffen und 239 Männern aus Spanien auf den Weg zu den Gewürzinseln. Die unter dem Namen "Armadade Moluccas" bekannte spanische Flotte überquerte zunächst den Atlantik, umrundete die südliche Spitze Südamerikas, segelte über den Pazifik und erreichte dann 1521 die Philippinen, wo Magellan starb. Am 6. November 1521 erreichte die Flotte mit nur noch zwei Schiffen schließlich die Gewürzinseln. Im Jahr 1522, am 06. September, erreichte die "Victoria" unter dem Kommando von Juan Sebastian Elcano ihre Heimat Spanien. Nach seiner Rückkehr wurde Elcano von Kaiser Karl V. zum "PRIMUS CIRCUMDEDISTI ME" ernannt - zum ersten Mann, der die Welt umrundete. Das Motiv der Münze zeigt zwei Schiffe, die von mehreren Fabelwesen - zwei Seenungeheuern und einem Wassermann - umgeben werden. Oberhalb eines Schiffes ist ein Engel zu sehen, der Wind in die Segel bläst und so die beiden Schiffe vor den Gefahren des Meeres schützt. Die Rückseite zeigt Elcanos und Magellans Porträt sowie das Abbild von Kaiser Karl V. Geliefert wird die Münze im Originaletui der Mint inklusive einem Echtheits-Zertifikat.

2019 marked the 500th anniversary of the First World Circumnavigation. In 1519, Juan Sebastian Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan left Spain with five ships and 239 men on board to seek a route west to the Spice Islands. The Spanish fleet sailing under the name "Armadade Moluccas" first crossed the Atlantic Ocean, rounded the southern tip of South America, sailed across the Pacific Ocean and reached the Philippines in 1521, where Magellan died. On November 6, 1521, the fleet finally reached the Spice Islands with only two of the original ships. In 1522, on the 6th of September, the "Victoria" under the command of Juan Sebastian Elcano reached Spain again. After his return, Elcano was named "PRIMUS CIRCUMDEDISTI ME" by Emperor Charles V - the first man to circumnavigate the world. The coin depicts two ships surrounded by several mythical creatures - two sea monsters and an Aquarius. Above one ship, an angel is blowing wind into the sails, thus protecting the two ships from the dangers of the sea. The reverse shows the portraits of Elcano and Magellan as well as the image of Emperor Charles V. The coin is delivered in the original box of the Mint including a certificate of authenticity.
