This highly anticipated 'Vaporwaffle' version has leather-trimmed mesh and suede uppers and features doubled-up detailing, including the tongues, laces, midsoles and branding.
This version is aimed at visionaries who understand the importance of yesterday as they strive for a better future. The Nike x sacai VaporWaffle combines innovative Vaporfly with the classic 1983 Pegasus and connects the past of running with the future with its variety of details. Chitose Abe has cemented herself as a figure to look out for within the sportswear space thanks to her highly-regarded projects with NIKE, Inc. via her sacai label. On December 17th, the Japanese designer is treating sneaker enthusiasts to the Nike Vaporwaffle in a “String/Black/Villain Red/Neptune Green” colorway. Much more animated than the silhouette’s launch propositions, the forthcoming pair boasts an ultra-breathable base clad in a cream tone that appeared on the Air Fear of God 1 back in February. As the sneaker’s unofficial moniker suggests, however, “Villain Red” steals the spotlight, taking over suede, leather and synthetic overlays throughout the upper; lace guards deliver further flair with their “Neptune Green” arrangement. sacai’s signature double-layered aesthetic joins the mix via the lateral profile swooshes, laces, tongues and midsole tooling. Underfoot, tread proffers some semblance of familiarity while simultaneously nodding to the Swoosh’s performance-running legacy with its partial waffle-pattern.
Serving as the last of four colorways prepared by Chitose Abe, the “String/Black Villain-Red” take on the Vaporwaffle accents the double-stacked design that combines elements of the Nike Vaporfly with the classic Pegasus from 1983. The highly conceptual footwear style that melds the past and future of running is rendered in tones burgundy, green and beige with hits of black and white.
The deconstruction themed upper is defined by a complex layered structure accented by double midfoot Swooshes, dual tongues and intertwined laces. Additional branding comes in the form of contrasting tongue tags, “NIKE/sacai” printed heel tabs, mini Swoosh marked heel loops and printed insoles. Elevating the shoe is a layered midsole unit marked by an aggressive lip at the heel paired with a classic rubber waffle outsole
