Burr Setting Tool for Brass & Copper Rivets & Burrs # 9 &/or #12


This tool is intended for setting belt rivets. A belt rivet has a head and a shaft and looks like a copper roofing nail but with a thicker head and a tapered shaft.  The burr looks like a washer with a hole that is just big enough for the tip of the rivet to fit.  To use this style of fastener, the rivet is inserted through the materials that you wish to connect and then the rivet setter tool (that's what we're selling here) is used to force the burr down onto the shaft of the rivet to form an interference fit.  The shaft of the rivet that extends past the burr is trimmed as needed and then peined with a hammer to mushroom it and lock it permanently in place.

The Stainless Steel side strike model is made in China and can be use for both #12 and #9 size rivets and burrs
The case hardened steel end strike model (also made in China) has a light knurled cross section on the shaft for a better grip and is available in both #12 and #9 sizes.

Info:  The #12 rivet is actually smaller than the #9 rivet.  It's an archaic measuring system steeped in history.

We generally ship in just a few days but we also attend a large event called The Pennsic War takes us away from the workshop for several weeks every July/August.  We continue to accept orders while we are gone and will send things out within a few days of returning home.  Watch for the away message and note the handling time.  Please let us know if you are in urgent need by a specific date and we'll do our very best to accommodate your schedule.
