American Outsider Artist Ross Brodar* created this Marvelous Abstract Tribal Face/Portrait. It is an Original Acrylic on wood - this wood happens to be the inside of a fine wine crate. There are also 'images' on the outer panels. All sides of the wine crate have been photographed. The face is inspired by the artist's collection of African Tribal Masks that he keeps. Exaggerated features, vivid and abstract use of color palette and thick application of paint (Impasto technique) give this face real depth.
Image measures 12 X 18 3/4 and is in Very Good condition.
Outside of wine crate measures 13" Wide, 19 3/4 Long and 6 1/2" Deep.
Crate weighs just under 6 lbs.
Please carefully examine all images for condition.

*Ross Brodar (b. 1971) Brodar came to America’s attention when in 2008 he was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal as the outsider artist who, uninvited to the show, dared to exhibit from a truck outside the exclusive Outsider Art Fair in New York City. A high school athlete from a middle-class suburban home, he was expelled from school after stealing and crashing his art teacher’s car. He was sentenced to time in a "therapeutic community” where, ironically and fortuitously, he became interested in art. Released in 1990, he moved to Brooklyn where he ran an after-hours club, collected debts for a fish wholesaler and continued to produce art. Brodar has had his work shown at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, Full Moon Arts Center, East Moriches, NY and the Outsider Art Fairs in both New York and Paris. Brodar was also an actor and continues to be a filmmaker as well as 'outsider' artist.
