Product Care

Care and Maintenance

Wood Furniture

  • Wood displays different grain patterns depending on which way they are cut - for example, the 'medullary ray' which can appear on oak furniture is a mark of good quality timber - these are just characteristics of the natural beauty of the wood.

  • Some furniture is also deliberately aged and rustic.

  • Wood veneers also allow distinctive patterns to be created on some surfaces, such as table tops and drawer fronts by the way slivers are arranged.

  • All timber and veneer surfaces will change colour and mellow over time. New furniture will initially vary in shade from items that have been previously purchased.

How to care for your furniture

Wood

  • Dust with a clean, damp, lint free cloth.

  • Frequent dusting will remove abrasive build up, which can damage the finish over time.

  • Do not use a very wet cloth or allow liquid to contact with the veneers for a long period of time as this can permanently damage the surface. Wipe up spills immediately.

  • Do not use any abrasive cleaner or harsh detergent as this can damage the surface of the furniture.

  • Spray polishes are best avoided as they contain silicones which may spoil the furniture's surface when building up over time.

  • Make sure all surfaces are protected from heat and liquids by mats and coasters.

  • Ensure that a mat or pad is placed under paper when you are writing on the furniture surface.

  • Do not place rubber or plastic materials on the wood finish as chemicals which may react with the finish if left in contact for an extended period of time.

  • Our furniture will endure most temperatures in the home but it is best to avoid placing furniture next to heat sources such as radiators or fires. Be particularly careful with solid wood as the lack of humidity caused by home heating can cause damage such as warping, cracking or splitting.

  • Excessive exposure to sunlight can cause fading of your furniture.

Metal

  • Use a soft dry duster

  • For stubborn stains, use a soft damp cloth and then revert to a soft dry duster.

  • Polishing materials and solvents should not be used, as they dissolve the protecting lacquer and allow oxidation of the genuine base material.

  • Using fittings in the incorrect place when assembling the bedstead can cause fittings to become cross threaded. This can then lead to fittings becoming trapped; making disassembly of the product difficult and voiding the warranty.

  • Please take care to ensure all fittings are used only where stipulated.

  • We do not accept responsibility for damage caused to misuse of the products.

Mirrors

  • Use a glass cleaner or soapy water for cleaning.

  • Do not use anything abrasive as this may damage the surface of the product.

Safety Instructions

  • Never drag furniture when moving it. Always lift it.

  • Periodically check all fixings to ensure none have come loose. Re-tighten when necessary.

  • Please take care when handling or moving the furniture as careless handling may cause damage or injury.

  • Furniture can be dangerous if incorrectly assembled. Assembly should be carried out by a competent person.

  • No liability will be accepted for damage or injury caused by incorrectly installed or assembled furniture.

Heavy item warning

  • It is recommended to seek assistance when moving a heavy object.

  • Take care when lifting to avoid personal injury and (or) damage to the product.

  • It is recommended that before moving a heavy object to a new location it is completely dis-assembled to avoid injury or damage to the furniture.

  • Please be careful to retain all fittings when doing this.

Returns

Returns and cancellations

We hope you will love your Bentley Designs Outlet purchase, but if you find it unsuitable or you're not entirely satisfied, please see below for our returns policies.

Cancellation of order prior to delivery

You can cancel your order at any time prior to delivery with no charge. All you need to do is let us know via the website link within the order.

Once we have confirmed that we have received your cancellation pre delivery, you'll receive a full refund to the original payment method used to pay for your order.

Return of delivered items

You can return your unused item(s) up to 14 days from the day you received your order, just notify us via the website link within your order.

Items can only be returned in their original unopened condition. We charge a collection fee dependent on the item(s) you are returning and your postcode. We will let you know the cost before arranging the return.

Once the items have arrived back in our warehouse and have been inspected you will receive a full refund to the original payment method used, less the cost of collection. Any items returned not in their original sealed packaging or with signs of damage or use will not be refunded.

Refunds made may not show in your account straightaway due to the clearing times required by banks to process the refunds. Typically this can take up to 7 working days, but varies depending on the bank.

Damaged items

Each of our items of furniture undergoes a comprehensive quality inspection before packing.  Furthermore, the internal packaging of each product is highly engineered and tested to ensure that our furniture moves seamlessly through the delivery process and arrives to you, our customer, without issue.

However, in the unlikely event that you do find fault with the furniture you have received, whether as a result of transit damage or manufacturing issue, we would ask that you fill out the necessary information on the website link within your order that will cover details such as your order number, date of manufacture label (affixed to the product) and photos of the product and detailed photos of the damage in question.  You are also able to e-mail this information, however this may delay the speed at which your request can be dealt with.

Once we have received all of the required information we can determine the best course of action.  In many instances where the issue is minor we can send out a skilled technician to resolve and make good to its original state.  For more serious issues or if a minor repair is not acceptable we will offer a full replacement of the faulty item to ensure that you are fully satisfied with your purchase.
