American (Long Island, NY) Outsider Artist known as Uncle Frank Verni*, composed and constructed this Fascinating 'Figural' of mainly Faces and Heads. It is an Original Mixed Media artwork on a wood board. Mixed media is composed mainly of paints and glue, which gives it a 3 dimensional look and feel, akin to the Impasto technique (laying on paint thickly so that it stands out from a surface). We are presented with several pockmarked faces, with exaggerated noses and ears - as well as being mostly bald. Not quite scary but definitely a bit spooky. These faces convey tons of emotion, fear, anger, concern and surprise! The color palette consists of yellows and greens and blues but shaded interestingly throughout the piece. Overall, the piece has a mesmerizing quality - you find yourself staring at it and moving closer - Quite Intriguing!
3/4" Wide Flat Beige floater moulding is included in this listing. It was constructed by the artist and worked to resemble stone.
Image (wood board) measures 20 X 26 1/4 and is in Very Good condition.
Outside measure of the frame is 22 1/2 X 28 3/4 and is Very Good condition.

Uncle Frank Verni
(d. 1991) was a Long Island (New York) artist. Mr. Verni, who died in 1991, served with the Marines in the Pacific during World War II and then returned to his home town of Baldwin. He got a job making posters and fliers for the Town of Hempstead and began creating paintings of faces and figures using paint mixed with Elmer’s glue. About 85 of his glue paintings were salvaged from a trash bin by a nephew, George Cork Maul, an East End musician and composer, after Mr. Verni’s death.
