Original
1891
antique color lithographed map of China, printed more than 130 years
ago.
- The map locates the old
course of Hwang
Ho, or the Yellow River, which drained into the East China sea (south
of Shantung peninsula), a few hundred miles south of its present
estuary.
- The river had shifted its course to the north in 1852,
close to 40
years before this map was printed.
- The map also shows the Grand Canal through the province
of Kiangsu, the
Great Wall, the Green Tea District, the Black Tea District, Hainan,
Hong Kong, Macao, Peking (Beijing), Formosa (Taiwan), Corea (Korea),
Canton (Guangzhou), Nanking (Nanjing), Honan (Henan), and more, with
hundreds of place names.
- The image area measures 27.5 x 40.6 cm [10¾" x 16"] on a
larger sheet, and
longitude is measured from Greenwich and Washington.
- An inset in the lower right corner shows the islands of
Japan.
- Condition: The map is in very good condition,
bright and clean,
with a vertical center fold, as issued, and no
marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any
questions.
- It was published by George Franklin Cram, Chicago in 1888
and is
an original, authentic antique map, not
a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be
genuine.
- It would make a very handsome display in your den or
office. It would
also make a perfect gift, and we'll include our helpful framing tips
for your reference, along with a photocopy of the dated title page from
the book in which this map was published.
- On the reverse side there is a single-page map of
Australia.
