The 56th and final issue of the US-American Series America the Beautiful is dedicated to the Tuskegee Airmen. They were the first African American pilots to fly for the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. The Tuskegee Airmen included 1,000 pilots and more than 15,000 support personnel. The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site is located in Tuskegee in the U.S. state of Alabama. The historic site commemorates the accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen. The design of this commemorative coin shows a pilot at the Morton Field flight training facility. Two P-51 Mustangs are visible in the air in the background.
