Togo withdrew after an attack by Cabinda rebel forces on their team bus on January 8th killed an assistant trainer and a press officer, and seriously injured several players, in spite of the bus being accompanied by Angolan armed forces (whose presence presumably provoked the attack; these Angolan forces apparently sustained no casualties but miserably failed in protecting their guests)
