If it is faulty or if a shock absorber is used that does not match the way you drive, this can lead to nasty surprises. Shock absorbers that are too soft can break easily or give you fear of your life when cornering or at high speeds. A brand new shock absorber is not always necessary. If the shocks are still working fine, replacing the shock absorber springs (which gradually wear out over the years) is sufficient.
