Photograph Notes: An atmospheric engine built in 1795 and used for colliery drainage. The cylinder is on the left and sits on a cast iron four legged 'stool'. In the centre is the twist cock water injection valve that injects the water in to the cylinder to condense the charge of steam and initiate the power stroke. The plug-rod operated valve gear is out of view to the right.
