original antique lithographed 1873 street map of Baltimore, Maryland,
hand-colored by ward and printed more than 148 years ago.
- The coverage area extends
from Townsend Street to the Patapsco River, between
the Carrollton Viaduct and Seventh Street.
- There is excellent
detail throughout, and the map shows railroads, streets, public
buildings, and
other landmarks. It is titled Gray's Atlas City of
Baltimore, Maryland.
- Railroads are identified with hashed
lines, and ward boundaries are delineated
by color.
- Among the named places and features are Ridgley's Cove,
Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, Green Mount Cemetery, Gwinn's
Bridge,
Patterson Park, Fell Street, Fort McHenry, Parade Ground, Camden Street
Station, North Central Railroad, Exchange Place, Penitentiary, Ferry Point,
Mount Clare Station, and Parry Street.
- The image area measures 30 x 37.5 cm [11¾" x 14¾"].
- The map was compiled by Frank A. Gray and was published
as
plate 99 in The National Atlas, by Ormando W.
Gray & Son, Philadelphia, 1873.
