Photograph Notes: The position and view direction are a best guess based on the aerial photograph and the sequence of my photographs as I walked around the outside of the main pumping station. The exhibit is a horizontal duplex non-rotative steam pump. It was built in 1919 by Dawson & Downie Ltd of Newcastle-on-Tyne as serial No. 36631. It was used on the River Tyne jetty at St Anthony's Tar Plant Newcastle-on-Tyne to unload tar barges and transfer the crude tar to storage tanks. It is a typical duplex pump with the crosshead of one side operating the slide valve of the cylinder in the opposite line. This ensures correct phasing of the strokes and produces a smoother and more continuous delivery.

We discount postage for multiple photographs and slides purchased, please wait for the invoice to be sent with the discounted postage rate applied.
