The Jeu Romantique was first published in 1838 by Mantoux. The designs were inspired by the illustrations of Célestine Nanteuil (1813-1873). Delicate and finely hand-painted, this deck is an extraordinarily scarce and exquisite example of cardmaking artistry.

CONDITION:

Good condition antique; incomplete 30/32 cards, (lacking 7 of hearts & king of spades) a few corner damages, worn edges on a few cards; minor amounts of water stains, surface scuffing, and soiling; small notations and writing on the reverses (see photographs).
