A synopsis: Japanese sword (日本刀 nihontō) is one of several types of traditionally made swords from Japan. Swords have been made from as early as the Kofun period, though generally "Japanese swords" refer to the curved blades made after the Heian period. There are many types of Japanese swords that differ by size, shape, field of application and method of manufacture. However, the name nihon-tō applies only to swords that the Japanese themselves consider to be Japanese. The basic condition that must be met by weapons to be called nihon-tō is manual forging according to traditional technologies. Swords that were mass produced (even in Japan) and cheap replicas do not deserve the name nihon-tō, very interesting volume, richly illustrated in color pictures.

This hardback first printing is in very good condition, a light signs of cover's usage , a great addition to your military collection.
