M&A has become a strong lever for accessing new markets, assets and capabilities. This is well confirmed with the volume of M%As deals prior to the last recession which began in 2007. The signal from the equipment sub- sector however seems to suggest that M&A deals are aimed at achieving consolidation, thus defeating the purpose for deregulating the industry by the regulator.
