Photograph Notes: This is a 4 horsepower Francis water turbine built in 1937 by Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon Ltd of Kendal. It was used at the Crooked Well Pumping Station Kington and drove a set of three reciprocating pumps. It ran at 320 rpm and consumed a 1000 gallons per minute on a 16' head. The governor in the foreground maintained a constant speed by adjusting the inlet guide vanes (seen in blue at the top) The turbine casing is the silver drum behind the governor.
