*An etching based on the drawing by Jacques Henri Sablet in collaboration with Louis Rodolphe Ducros belongs to the collection of the Museo di Roma (Pallazzo Braschi) in Rome.
The work is part of the series of five engravings created by Jacques Sablet in collaboration with Abraham-Louis-Rodolphe Ducros at the end of the 18th century and depicting popular and genre subjects. This thematic choice reflects the Swiss artist's propensity for direct observation of everyday reality, which focuses on the picturesque notations but also on the moral and spiritual qualities of the characters. With the traveler's curiosity, Sablet investigates the customs of the Roman people, illustrating their traditional customs.
Both Sablet and Ducros travelled widely (among others) across Italy.
