- The image area measures 36.6
x 29.6 cm
[14½" x 11¾"], and the map has wonderful detail throughout, including
railroads, canals, wagon roads, cities, towns, and natural features.
- It includes mileages between towns along wagon and
stagecoach
roads, as well as a log of distances between landings on the steamboat
routes
between
Little Rock and New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and Fort Gibson.
- The map labels 48 counties and county seats. Among the
specific named
places
and features are Woodruff's Ferry, Magnet Cave, Yellville, Bentonville,
El Dorado, Arkadelphia, Marion, Osceola, Boonville, Ultima Thule,
Athens, Van Buren, Ozark, Red River, Jasper, Pine Bluff, and many more.
- This map is Plate 25, published by Samuel Augustus Mitchell,
Philadelphia, 1847. It is
titled A New Map of Arkansas with its Canals, Roads,
& Distances.

bright and
clean, with toning along the outer edges, not affecting the image
