    About the Seller

Willowbridge Plants is a small family nursery. It is run by Karl Shorrock. Fully qualified and with 35 years experience. We grow a very wide eclectic range of plants including perennials, shrubs, herbs, a wide range of peonies and my beloved Japanese maples. Most of the plants we sell have been grown on our nursery, some may have been bought in as little plants and grown on. We grow plants to be hardy and tough and to survive once planted in your garden, so all our plants are hardened off before sale. We use no insecticides on our plants, instead using biological control eg ladybirds for aphids and some substances that are organic and safe to use for people, pets and wildlife. I am happy to answer your questions/queries about this or anything else, please email me.

    Growers notes

We sell most of our plants in a 9cm pot (round or square) This is the intermediate stage that most perennials and shrubs are grown on a professional nursery. The pot is about the size of a coffee mug and the plants can vary in height depending on variety and stage of growth. We start with a plug plant that we have propagated and then pot it into a 9cm pot. In this pot we do most of the formative work to get a nice bushy plant. We don't aim for tall and thin, but short and bushy, a much better product. We sell the 9cm when it is well rooted, has the number of shoots we require from that variety, and is ready to pot up or plant out (garden ready). We do not sell plug plants or newly potted plants which are not garden ready in my opinion.

We mostly sell this size plant on eBay because of the postage and packing costs. We use the courier Hermes and the cost to send plants is determined by weight and size and we only find it commercially viable in 9cm pots apart from higher value plants like maples. I presume that's why other sellers do the same.

Your 9cm will be fully garden ready when you receive it, but avoid planting when ground condition are not suitable i.e. waterlogged or frozen and It will need watering everyday in dry conditions until it is well established. If fact insufficient watering is the biggest killer of new plants!! Give them plenty and often. Feeding is important but remember there is food in the compost when you receive your new plants and you only really need to feed once they are established after a few weeks in the ground or bigger pots, if you pot them up.

We are always here to give you advise after you have purchased your plants. Perennials can be a long term investment in your garden and we are more than happy to answer questions.

    Kind regards
