Under Wood Laminate Floor Heating

At Living Heat, we offer the largest range of mat sizes in Aluminium Foil heat mats in the UK. This versatile heat mat can be installed in most areas, even wet rooms or shower areas and is earth protected for your safety.

Because the heating is installed directly under the floor, it is far more responsive and cost-effective to run than other underfloor heating systems. Depending on the coverage, it can be used as a secondary or primary heat source under most "click" floors, such as LVT, Amtico, Laminate & Engineered Wood.

We have a large selection of thermostat controllers to choose from, including our range of Wi-Fi devices, which are all ready to pair with the popular and reliable Smart Life app. This gives you the ability to regulate and monitor your heating schedules on the go, at home or work on your phone or tablet.

The Living Heat Aluminium Foil heat mat is the easiest of all-electric heat systems to install. The heating is supplied with easy-to-follow fitting instructions, but for peace of mind, we offer free 24/7 technical backup from our skilled technical team. With over 40+ combined years in this field, there is no question or query we cannot answer. The Living Heat Aluminium Foil mat also comes with a 15-year warranty.

We advise that you consult your floor supplier before the foil mat is installed, as an alternative from Living Heat may be required.

Please note, that the heating should never be laid directly onto a concrete or wood subfloor. Foil-backed or perforated underlays/overlays should not be used with the Aluminium Foil heating.

We recommend that a 6/10/20/30mm XPS thermal board be installed below the Foil heating. No other underlays or overlays should be used. Please see link to insulation below:

PLEASE NOTE: Areas over 12sqm would be supplied as 2 or more mats depending on total coverage. Heated areas over 24sqm would require a relay or contactor if you wish to use a single controller or a single thermostat controller. Our Living Heat design and support team are happy to answer any questions before or after an order has been placed. We can even provide floor plans to you or the installer if needed.

Living Heat Aluminium foil underfloor heating mats are designed to be used for heating under wood, engineered wood, laminate and LVT-type floors. At 150w/sqm the mats are capable of being used as the primary heat source, (No other heating required). This assumes a minimum of 80% floor coverage is achieved at no less than 150w/m2. In high heat loss areas and cold areas, a larger area or wattage per sqm may be required to provide a primary heat source, (please also see our 200w/m2 heat film kits in our eBay shop).

This Aluminium heating mat is easy to lay but must be laid over suitable insulation. The insulation will protect the heating from the hard subfloor and also make sure the heat is sent up into the room above and not lost down into the subfloor.

This heating mat is ultra-thin and when used with Living Heat 6mm impact plus insulation or Living Heat high compression XPS hard insulation boards will not add to the total floor height. The insulation will absorb any high points on the heating mat and provide a firm well insulated based on what to fit your wood or laminate flooring over. If using LVT flooring, Living Heat high compression XPS 6mm or 10mm hard insulation boards must be used under the heating. 6mm Impact Plus insulation is not suitable for use under LVT flooring.

The heating mats are simply rolled out over the floor and fixed down using the fixing tape provided. High conductivity aluminium foil bridging tape is also provided which is required to join mat runs and continue the earthing of each area if the mat needs to be cut and tuned to fit your room.

There is no specialist labour or tools required to lay and fit our underfloor heating kits. The only qualified person required is an electrician to make the final connection to the mains power.

Our range of thermostats fit into a standard 1 gang back box. And can carry a maximum load of 16amps. After this threshold is passed a simple contact or relay switch must be installed.

Under Wood & Laminate

INSTALLATION AND FITTING

1. Measure the total floor area that you wish to be heated. (Less any immovable objects such as bath or kitchen units that you do not want the heating to be fitted under).

2. Take off a 10cm border around the floor area to be heated as it is not necessary for the heating elements to be run up tight against any walls.

3. This measurement should then be rounded down to the nearest whole sqm, (i.e. 5.27m2 floor size would be rounded down to a 5m2 kit size).

Step 1:

Unpack the order and make sure everything is present and correct. It is also advisable to familiarize yourself with the fitting instructions included with all heating mats and thermostats. If something is missing or wrong please stop and contact Living Heat immediately.

Step 2:

Clean subfloor ready making sure it is smooth, flat, stable and suitable for the chosen floor covering.

Step 3:

Install the insulation making sure to cover the entire flooring area, not just the heated area to maintain a level surface for the flooring to be laid over.

Step 4:

Lay your underfloor heating making sure the mat does not overlap at any point. Once the mat is fitted place the floor probe, included with the thermostat under part of the heating mat. The probe should be secured directly between 2 heating elements.

The connection cables can then be left ready to be connected to the thermostat which in turn will be wired into the mains power. Testing the mat is covered fully in the instruction manual but this is easily done with a standard multimeter.

The floor covering should be laid over the heating in accordance with the manufactures fitting instructions making sure to keep the floor clean.

It is always a good idea to test the heating before, during and after instillation. It is very hard to damage the mat but should this happen rest assured it is very easy to fix as long as you stop and repair it immediately.

The heating can now be connected to the thermostat in accordance with the thermostat instructions and correct wiring regulations.
