Photograph Notes: Formerly the route the railway took out of Bath Green Park station, now used as the access road to the Sainsbury's supermarket which is just behind me. Originally, there were two of these bridges but one has been replaced with the covered footbridge visible on the right of the shot. This is a fine example of a Town Truss bridge, originally conceived by the American architect Ithiel Town in 1820 as a means of allowing bridges to be constructed by low skilled labour. Apologies for the white haired old dear creeping into shot ... this was taken from the middle of the zebra crossing and I didn't have time to take another photo as I was acutely aware of holding up the traffic!
