This is a very rare and exceptional 18K Yellow & White Gold Rolex Art-deco pocket watch which is fully signed by Rolex a rare 100% factory finished "Chronometer" pocket watch, its also bearing the retailers signature on the dial in London for the Royal jeweler "Asprey's" with an original 18k & Platinum Art-deco matching pocket watch chain.
The slim deco pocket watch is classic 2 tone 18k in the Art-deco style but what is very unusual and not something I have ever seen before is the movement is marked and numbered for a "Class A Certificate" and the dial is marked "Observatory Quality"
With this in mind the movement has a very high finish with fine regulation and not like any other Rolex pocket watch movement I have ever seen before, just a remarkable Gentleman's watch of the finest quality.
I think the "Class A" relates to the London Kew Observatory which Rolex worked with on some of the watches they made but it could possibly be a Swiss Observatory? though I do not know if they rate their top chronometer certificates as "Class A" for the top grade?
The case is fully marked and has the Glasgow import marks for 1929 as well as all the Rolex Factory stamps you would expect as well.
The watch has the original hand cut 18k White gold winding crown and the operation of the watch is smooth and its working well but as you can see its in need of a good clean.
Just an incredibly unusual and rare Rolex pocket watch, I bought it from a good friend who got it from a small estate sale where they had not described the watch as they possibly should, quite likely a unique watch or made from a small run of a couple watches, it may be the only one in this style of case ever made? just such a cool watch.
The chain has come from the same source from what I can tell just recently, so although I can not certify its the original, its the perfect watch chain and very rare to find, if its not the original Albert chain its the perfect one for this 2 tone watch, its also fully marked and seems to be 18k Yellow gold and Platinum.
