Quidditch ist eine der beliebtesten Sportarten in der Zaubererwelt und wird auch in der Hogwarts™ Schule für Hexerei und Zauberei gespielt. Es treten pro Mannschaft sieben Spieler auf fliegenden Besen gegeneinander an und versuchen durch die drei angebrachten Tore Punkte zu erzielen. Im Quidditch gibt es insgesamt drei Ballarten und vier Bälle: den Quaffel, zwei Klatscher und den goldenen Schnatz. Der Quaffel ist der einzige Ball, der durch ein Tor Punkte für die Teams erzielt. Die Klatscher sind verzauberte Eisenkugeln, die die Spieler angreifen. Der aber wohl wichtigste Ball ist der goldene Schnatz. Er ist ungefähr 4 cm groß und so verzaubert, dass er schnell herumfliegt und sich gut verstecken kann. Die Mannschaft des Suchers, der es gelingt, den goldenen Schnatz als Erstes zu fangen, entscheidet das Spiel für sich und beendet die Partie. In seinem ersten Quidditch Spiel fängt Harry den Schnatz auf eine außergewöhnliche Art, und zwar nicht mit der Hand, sondern mit dem Mund.
