A Victorian Antique Tunbridge Ware Tea Sewing Box. 



A charming antique Victorian inlaid sewing box dated from inscription to 1898.
 
This period sewing box has paricularly well made and preserved multi-colour inlays.  The box has a dome lid with a brass plaque enscribed with the original owners initials and the above date.  The exterior of the caddy is veneered in rose wood and has two bands of inlay running over the lid and down the front facing.  The front facing has a square brass escutcheon.  The brass plaque and escutcheon are both neatly bordered with inlays.  The work box has been maintained in good condition with the veneer having a lovely wax polished gleam.  The base of the box is finished in time worn green baize material.  The lid is firm on its original stop hinges.  On opening the box the lift out tray is revealed.  This has two sections covered with blue material and two sections covered with mahogany with black knob lifts.  The interior of the lid has 'buttoned' style material being gathered by red cloth beads. On removal of the tray the interior of the box is revealed.     
  
Dimensions: The sewing box measures 25cm x 18cm x 14cm.

Condition: In very good used antique condition.  The box is a particularly nice example with bright, colourful inlay and a lovely wax polished gleam.  There are some minor marks to the veneer and inlays as shown in the images.  The brass hinges are clean with some tarnish.  The hinges function as intended.  The tray has surface rubbing and marks relating to age use and wear.  Two of the dividers have been replaced at some stage and the mahogany covers are neat replacements. The interior lining has some marks and staining as shown in the images.  The brass plaque and escutcheon are under original lacquer and are neat and tidy.  There is no key with this box. We encourage potential buyers to make use of the 24 images to satisfy themselves of condition and encourage any enquiries.

The work box is in good antique condition that can be immediately enjoyed.  The box is priced to sell.

We accept paypal payments. We also accept cheques but they must be cleared before any items will be sent. Buyers are also welcome to pick up items in which case we would accept cash.

Shipping

We do our best to ensure that all items are well packaged to ensure their safe arrival. In the event of rough postal handling and subsequent damage please contact us to allow us to resolve the problem. It is the buyers responsibility to check that the parcel is undamaged before signing for it Due to problems with items going missing, all items will be sent recorded, heavier items will be sent by Parcel Force 48 which requires a signature on delivery.This will be reflected in the postage costs, if you are not happy with the cost of postage then please do not place a bid. If you have any additional packaging or postal requirements we are always happy to accomodate. If you need an item particularly quickly e.g for a birthday present then please let us know straight away and we will dispatch as a priority. We will happily combine postage on multiple purchases. We are also happy for buyers to pick up items with cash on collection. International buyers must contact for postal rates prior to bidding. Some items may be automatically be excluded due to weight, fragility etc. All items sent abroad will be sent 'signed for' which will add to the postage cost. We always ensure that delicate items are packed carefully and thoroughly to ensure a safe journey, we use new,professional packaging materials bought specifically for the job. We do not aim to make any money out of postal charges, we charge just enough to cover the costs of sending items. Our main priority is that items arrive undamaged. Please bear in mind when leaving feedback that postal prices have recently increased considerably and that delicate items need a huge amount of packaging materials to ensure a safe arrival. Please also bear in mind that postage costs do not simply cover the cost of the stamp, they cover the cost of quality materials, time and petrol to get items to the post office. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE POSTAGE COSTS PLEASE DO NOT PLACE A BID.

We do not accept bids from ebayers with a positive feedback of less than 25. This includes returns, for reasonable reasons, which we accept with the buyer paying for return postage.
