Original antique copper engraved map of the Maldive Islands by Alain Mannesson Mallet.

  • The lower third of the image area is a decorative cartouche with a draped title held aloft by two charming sea cherubs with fish tails.

  • The map is titled "Isles des Maldives" and was published in Mallet's Description de L’Univers, Paris, 1683.

  • The image size is 14 x 10 cm [5½" x 4"] and named features include the Maldive Archipelago, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), the Manar and Chiloa Strait, Bay of Bengal, southern India, and numerous islands, including Malé, capital of the Maldives.

  • Condition:  The map is in excellent condition, a bold, crisp impression, bright and clean, with generous margins and no rips or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.

  • This is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine.

  • There is French text on the reverse side, providing additional information on Malé and the Maldive Islands.
