antique copper engraved map of the Maldive Islands by Alain Mannesson Mallet.
- The lower third of the image area is a decorative cartouche
with a draped title held aloft by two charming sea cherubs with fish tails.
- The map is titled "Isles des Maldives" and was published in Mallet's
Description de L’Univers, Paris, 1683.
- The image size is 14 x 10 cm [5½" x 4"] and named features
include the Maldive Archipelago, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), the Manar and Chiloa Strait,
Bay of Bengal, southern India, and numerous islands, including Malé, capital of the
Maldives.
