Vintage African Makonde Sculpture handcrafted from ebony wood in Tanzania.

This is known as a Makonde Tree of Life or Ujamma carving which depitcs how villagers survive by working with nature and supporting each other across generations. 


The centers of Makonde carving are in south-east Tanzania and in the capital Dar es Salaam. The statues are found in art collections worldwide.


This example is a great height and of a good weight, it has clearly been made with the finest quality. Carvings of this style date back to the early 20th century.


An exceptional work of art, deserves to be pride of place. 10" x 3"
