A rare Bali fishing genre scene by nationally acclaimed Indonesian artist i Dewa Ketut Ding (Padangtegal, 1912-1996), painted c. 1940. The work is done in tempera, with pen and ink, on a tightly wove linen canvas, signed lower left.

Dewa Ketut Ding was a 1st-generation member of the famous Pita Maha Artists' Association and a noted Pre-War Bali modernist. He studied painting directly under Walter Spies and Rudolf Bonnet, two European artists that played pivotal roles in the development of painting in Padangtegal. The canvas measures approximately 25" x 15.5" and with the frame about 28.5" x 19".
