Description: Rare book containing three original pen and ink sketches by the famous naturalist Arthur Henry Patterson.

The book is a rebound yellowback edition of the autobiography of the Irish socialist Jim Connell (1852-1929), telling of his upbringing in a poaching family in rural Ireland and his similar pursuits in England. He is best known for writing The Red Flag.

Recased with original yellowback pictorial covers laid down. In very attractive condition, some wear and tape marks to the laid down pictorial covers. New endpapers. Binding sound and square.

Arthur Henry Patterson would sometimes be moved to add sketches to books that he admired. This one has a sketch of a lapwing to the front, a brace of pheasants to the final page, and a cat stalking a rabbit on page 235.

A unique museum-quality item.
