Photograph Notes: Built c 1850, by John Dobson for the Newcastle and Berwick Railway Company. Dobson's original hotel forms only about a quarter of the current building - the lower four storeys of the 10-bay section nearest to the station (on the right) with curved and pointed heads to the first floor windows. In 1890, three floors were added on top of Dobson's hotel, a new grand entrance was added at the east end, and 11 bays of six storeys were added to the eastern side of the new entrance. The building is Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1104900 . See also [[1063353]] and [[2933294]]. The Buildings of Grainger Town - No.150. See [[4406042]].
