Photograph Notes: A shield on the wall gives a date of 1695 though this building was actually erected in 1933 on the site of the New Ship Inn which itself had been built in the 19th century to replace an older inn established in 1636. When reopened it was called Henekeys until the mid 1980s whereupon it became the Lanes Cafe Bar and since 2007 by its current name. As Henekeys the place gets a mention in Graham Greene's Brighton Rock and Patrick Hamilton's Hangover Square
