Ein rundes Jubiläum ist immer ein willkommener Anlass für ein Comeback oder eine Neuauflage. In diesem Fall spendiert Nike seinem 1999 erschienenen die Air Ghost Racer zum 20. Geburtstag den lang erwarteten Retro-Release.

Vor allem der “Neon Yellow“ trägt deutlich die Handschrift der 90er Jahre und der damaligen Laufschuh-Styles. Sein leuchtend gelbes Mesh ist aber auch heute noch ein absoluter Eyecatcher. Der rote Swoosh setzt dazu ein weiteres Ausrufezeichen. Überhaupt passt der Ghost Racer perfekt in den Sneaker-Zeitgeist der aktuellen Performance-Runner wie des Vomero oder des P-6000.

Einst besaß der Ghost Racer als erstes Modell überhaupt eine durchgehende Duralon-Sohle. Hinzu kam das in die Ferse eingearbeitete Zoom-System. Dass er dennoch so unglaublich leicht war und man ihm beim Laufen kaum spürte, mag nicht nur eine Erklärung für seinen Namen sondern auch für die Beliebtheit unter den Läufern gewesen sein. Für uns ist der „Ghost Racer“ ganz klar der Release dieser Woche und ein Beleg dafür, dass auch ein Modell ohne Collabo-Partner oder Hype-Etikett ein Highlight sein kann. Für den Ghost Racer hat sich das lange Warten in jedem Fall gelohnt.
