Photograph Notes: This was a public road up to the pass through the hills around 40 years ago, but then the quarry was in use. Since then access has diminished until there was only access to a small car park close to the lake of Malvern spring water that filled the old workings. Now one is not able to drive anywhere near the water as, despite plenty of warnings, the pool continued to be a popular leisure spot for "wild swimming". The very cold deep water, underwater obstacles and sometimes the effect of alcohol resulted in many deaths. We had two deaths in a fortnight last year and this still did not deter pleasure seekers. More warning signs, barbed wire fences, etc have since been erected, but those determined always find ways to overcome the protection measures.
