Description: This is a remarkable fine binding by Leighton Son & Hodge or Shoe Lane of London. Intricate gilt and blue design to both boards and the spine. Fine bevelled edges. All edges gilt. Original lilac end papers. A masterpiece of Victorian book-binding. 

This book is signed by Birket-Foster "To Robert Foster from his affectionate brother, Birket-Foster. Xmas 1856". 123 pages, plus one page of publisher's adverts. With 8 beautifully designs by Birket-Foster engraved on wood by Edmund Evans and printed by R & R Clark. 

The book is in very attractive condition with slight fading to the spine and light wear to the edges (see pictures). Internally clean. Binding sound and square. 

A rare museum quality association copy.
