Unique Zeiss Contax S 35mm SLR film camera, Germany 1949-1951, serial number 57800, with 58mm 1:2f Biotar lens, serial number 3543667 , original case with strap and tripod in original leather tubecase.

The Contax S ("S" for Spiegel = Mirror) was the first 35mm prism SLR, along with the Rectaflex, showing the image correctly, i.e. unreversed, life-size and parallax-free.

Both were exhibited in 1948 and produced from 1949.

However, the Contax patent date is first, identifiable by the flash sync connection in the tripod socket.

The flash contact was subsequently placed on the top plate with the Contax D model in 1952.

Focal plane shutter 1-1/1000s + B.

This is a later model since it bears a self-timer.

A folding resting pedestal for increased stability is incorporated on the base plate.

Manufactured in the Dresden factory.

M42 Ø42 lens mount flange.

Non-instant returning mirror.

Very rare Biotar  58 1:2f aluminum lens.

Price in 1951: $475, equivalent today to about $5,297.00.

Camera is in pristine condition. In original box with a lot of accessories like light filters, light meter in original box as well.

Thank you.
