For sale is an exceptionally rare set of the complete works of Shakespeare. This edition published 1750-1751. In nine volumes, as issued. Collated as fully complete. Two engraved plates in Volume 1. (12mo) 12.8x7.8 cm (5x3").

Bound in period full tan calf, with raised bands to the spines. Original plain endpapers. Spine labels lacking.

Externally the bindings are worn, as is often the case with calf bindings of the period. The hinges, whilst holding firm (a couple with neat repairs), are split to the surface. Rubbing and extraneous wear in places.

Internally, each volume boasts an ownership name, dated 1755. Broadly very clean throughout, but with occasional marginal marking in places.

A scarce set, with no copies currently on the open market. Title page of Volume 1 dated 1751; the others dated 1750.

Overall, a charming set indeed, which includes Shakespeare’s finest works. It comes very highly recommended indeed.
