Handsome, nightstand salvaged from Northeastern
PA. It was made sometime during the 1970's or 80's. Except for the drawer bottom
which is made of Masonite, the entire piece is made of solid wood.
The nightstand sits on 4 square, tapered legs.
Three sides of each leg have decorative, carved loops. The drawer face has
lovely applied (raised) molding and 2 brass pulls, which give the impression
that there are 2 drawers. It's actually one, large single drawer put together
with dovetail joints.
The table is strong, solid, and sturdy, but is
distressed cosmetically. There are nicks, chips, scratches, and spots of worn
finish. If you like a distressed/worn look, the nightstand is perfect as is,
however, if you want a clean, flawless finish, this would be a great piece to
paint. All you would need is about an hour of sanding and it would be ready to
prime and paint. Otherwise, there are no breaks, cracks, gouges, rot, or warp.
Our carpenter thoroughly inspected the table and
found no repairs to make nor anything to reinforce. The legs and top are tight
and sturdy, and the drawer slides in and out with ease. It's ready for another
lifetime of service!
