KRLA Beat (Los Angeles)

October 7, 1967

Volume 3, Number 15

I have a very large collection of music periodicals such as this, and will be putting them up over the next month or so.

Condition: This issue is in very good condition.  A very nice copy with light toning to the edges, but surprisingly attractive with little edge-wearing.  No markings, no cutouts.  Preserved in an acid-free archival bag with backing board for support.

Cover story: Beatles Set for world-wide TV.  Animal caught at hippie wedding.

Miscellaneous: George Harrison tears in to the Haight-Ashbury hippie colony.  The Beat explores the still up-and-coming Doors.  Pete Seger performance on the Smothers Brothers Show upsets censors.  Also, additional articles and photos covering: Beatles, "Magical Mystery Tour", George Harrison, Smothers Brothers, Rascals, Everly Brothers, Zal Yanovsky, Smokey Roberts, Frank Sinatra, Lou Rawls, Sean Connery, Paul Newman, Walt Disney, Harold Wilson, The Move, Gene Cornish, Association, Sid Bernstein, Supremes, Four Tops, Monterey Pop Festival, Sonny & Cher, the Lewis & Clarke Expedition, Teddy Neeley, Van Morrison, Bobby Rydell, Don Ho, Brian Epstein, Petula Clark, Fred Astraire, Tommy Steele, Don Ho, Jay & the Techniques, the Doors, Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, Robbie Krieger, Casey Kasem, Bob Dayton, Jim Wood, Rhett Walker, Dave Hull, Reb Foster, Gypsy Boots, Lew Irwin, Buffalo Springfield, Spanky & Our Gang, Bee Gees, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Turtles, Grass Roots, Beach Boys, Bobby Vee, Glen Campbell, Byrds.

The Beat was one of the earliest American newspapers that gave wide coverage to the exploding rock ?n? roll music scene.  It ran from 1964 until 1968, with its first issue being February 25.  Consisting of articles, interviews, concert updates, record reviews, Music Charts, this is a magical snapshot of music history as it was being made.  Great coverage of the British Invasion.  The Beatles, The Monkees, The Who, Rolling Stones, The Hollies, Herman's Hermits, Them, The Yardbirds.  The Supremes.  Sonny & Cher.  The Beach Boys.  Mamas and the Papas.  Lovin Spoonful.  Filled with photographs, ads, contests and drawings.  Truly a time capsule of a decade of massive change not just on the music scene, but on the social, political and economic as well.  The fashion trends, then breaking bounds of lyrics, body movements, social norms and explosions.  Look through these now and looking at where we are now.... beyond fascinating.  Tony Barrow was a contributing columnist.  He was publicist to the Beatles, and known to have coined the name The Fab Four.  Different stations (cities) would have their own edition.  The KRLA Beat, The WCFL Beat, etc.

I will happily answer any further questions.

Making offers: I certainly can appreciate wanting a better deal, and I've made offers myself on my own purchases.  To be up front, if and when you make an offer, I will automatically reject crazy low "give it away" offers.  Best not to waste our time.  With a more reasonable offer, I will review current pricing for other comparable items out there and either accept, counter or decline submitted offer.  If in that review, I find my pricing is already LOW and outdated, I may then increase the price to bring more in line with other offerings.  I spend a lot of time sourcing the best offerings, preparing the listings with images and clear descriptions, and price fairly in MOST cases.

I remain grateful to all who consider my offerings, and I look forward to serving your needs respectfully and with success.
