Large-format
fold-out 1928 ACSC road map of Los Angeles and vicinity,
printed more than 90 years ago.
- The map opens to a very
generous 28" x 44"
and has an extraordinary amount of detail on old street
and highway alignments, with cartography by the Automobile Club of
Southern California.
-
The
coverage area extends from Fillmore to Banning, between Victorville and
Capistrano Beach. Topography is drawn in relief, and details include
roads, steam and electric railroads, auto camps, ranches, oil fields,
mines,
parks, hospitals,
schools, airports, landing fields, country clubs, reservoirs, and
natural features.
-
There's an extensive index on the reverse side listing cities, towns,
post offices, resorts, roads, boulevards, valleys, forests, harbors,
islands, rivers, lakes, gun clubs, missions, cemeteries, mountains,
hills,
and much more.
- Condition: This map is in very good, lightly used
condition, with some faint water stains, short splits on a couple of
the
folds, and a small hole to the south of Mt. Lewis in the Sierra
Madre Mountains. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any
questions.
- This is an original, authentic ACSC map, not a
reproduction or modern reprint. It is fully guaranteed to be genuine
and is an excellent historical resource. The cartographer's initials
are in the lower right corner: W.T.T.
- The map folds to approximately 11" x 3½", and it is
unnumbered and
undated.
It was published circa 1928,
just prior to
the completion of the Los Angeles City Hall and shortly after the
federal
highway numbering system was implemented. The ACSC
address is given as 2601 South Figueroa Street
in Los Angeles.
