The author was born in Lisbon in 1583 and died on September 25, 1655, at the age of 72. Priest and master of arts, doctor in theology from the University of Évora, canon and chanter of the cathedral of the same city, he was one of the most erudite writers of his time. Classic work that is divided as follows: First Discourse – Of the great importance for the conservation and increase of the Spanish monarchy, assisting His Majesty with His Court in Lisbon – Life of João de Barros; Second Speech - On the parts that there must be in language to be perfect and as Portuguese has all of them… - Life of Luís de Camões; Third Speech – How would the Hunting Practice be Praiseworthy – Life of Diogo do Couto Chronicler of Estado da India; Fourth Discourse – On the Origin and Great Antiquity of the Vestments that the clergy of Portugal uses as an ecclesiastical habit. As far as is known, the portraits that accompany the work, by Camões and João de Barros, are the oldest that were printed, serving as a model for those that were later engraved. That of Diogo do Couto that some bibliophiles do not mention, namely Inocêncio. The Title and text is framed by fillets and printed in round and italic characters, in various sizes. Capita letters at the beginning of each chapter, decorated with fantasy motifs. Heads ornamented with floral motifs, at the end of the prologue and at the beginning of the first chapter. At the end of each chapter, vignettes decorated with floral motifs. Copy with pages 83, 84, 85, 86, 132, 123 and with the two portraits, photocopied, although one of them is very rare to appear. Very rare.
