Hand Signed by Henri Matisse, Special Print “White Plumes”, With COA.

Henri Matisse, Signed Special Print “White Plumes”.  From a VIP book, Editeur Fernand Mourlot.  Hand signed by Henri Matisse in white pen.  Unframed. Size: 7.75 x 9.75 in (19 x 23.5 cm), printed on the back.   Henri-Émile-Benoît Matisse (December 31, 1869 – November 3, 1954) was a French artist, known for both his use of color and his fluid draftsmanship. He was an artist in multiple media, a printmaker, and a sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter.  Matisse is regarded along with Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp as one of the three artists who helped to define the arts in the opening decades of the twentieth century.  Although he was initially labelled a Fauve (wild beast) for his then-revolutionary use of color, he was later hailed as an upholder of the classical tradition in French painting.  He was truly a master of the arts. This hand signed print was originally produced to accompany an art exhibition featuring Matisse.  Before the internet, books and portfolios were a long-established way for galleries to promote their special shows.  Many of the books and portfolios were kept by the galleries and then broken up for sale, with some prints signed and other unsigned by Matisse.  For certification of authenticity (COA), we are relying on the galleries from which we purchased to verify the artwork and signatures.
