Photograph Notes: Erected at Bemersyde in 1814, this colossal statue was carved by John Smith from a single chunk of red sandstone. The figures of the children at its base give some idea of its imptessive approximately 7 metre height. This photograph was taken long before the statue was restored by the Wallace Trust in 1992.
