This Gold coin was issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Brazilian independence from Portugal. There was a limited mintage of just 50,000 coins! Each Gold coin contains .4925 oz Gold.
The obverse shows two profiles, one of Pedro I, the first emperor of Brazil nicknamed “The Liberator,” and the other of Emilio Garrastazu Medici, the president of Brazil in 1972. Below the profiles in a wave design are the dual dates of 1822 and 1972. The reverse of the Gold coin shows an outline of Brazil with sun beams emanating from the capital city of Brasilia.
