"Na Konci Sveta (At the End of the World)," by Jindrich Streit, published in the Czech Republic in 2000, 146 pages, large oblong hardcover with dust jacket, 11" by 9.5". Bilingual text in English and Czech. One of many brilliant photo books by Czech contemporary photographer Jindrich Streit, whose work is primarily devoted to depictions of the simple yet valorous lives of people in rural cultures. His subject here is the Buryats of the isolated Kizhingian province in Russia, near the Mongolian border, captured in 70 full-page black and white photos - unassuming and yet penetrating work, marked by subtle drama, small happinesses, surprises, and incongruity. Another wonderful book by, to my mind, the greatest living documentary photographer. Rare. In excellent condition save for a trace of edgewear.
