DESCRIPTION:

Alamo Village is a close cousin of the beautiful crinum "Mrs. James Hendry".  It was discovered in Alamo Village, TX (where the movie, The Alamo was filmed) in the 1960’s by Dr. Thad Howard.  Spiky umbels of narrow-petaled, blush white, star shaped flowers, 8” in diameter.  Deep, wine-colored buds and long, claw-like petals suggest parentage from C. zeylanicum. Spicy fragrance.  Vigorous, small bulb of several inches, ever-blooming and hardy.   Blooms well in full sun and has bloomed in every month for us except July, August and September.  10” leaves.  These blush pink flowers are some of the most attractive in our collection of over 1000 crinum varieties.  We have had as many as 15 flowers on scapes that are 45" tall.

These bulbs can live for decades, and this particular bulb will be a prize in your collection in a few years.

BACKGROUND:

This is most likely a cross of crinum moorei and zeylanicum.  These bulbs are impossible to find any more.  Our original bulb came from a collector in 2000.

GROWING CONDITIONS:

This bulb will thrive in full sun and needs good draining soil.  Here in northeast FL, zone 9,  it starts blooming as early as January, does not bloom July-Sept. and then can bloom through December.   The leaves stay green all year.  It is very hardy and easy to grow requiring no special care.  It will tolerate extended dry periods and will take freezing temperatures at least down to the high teens.  Crinum bulbs will survive very long periods out of the ground if left to dry properly. This would make an excellent container plant in colder climates.  Bulbs offset very slowly making them much more expensive.

DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID:

You are bidding on a small-size bulb at least 1 years old and about 1/2 - 1" in diameter which should bloom in 3 years. The roots are well developed so it should transplant easily.  This is a very exclusive crinum.     Bulbs will be freshly dug and shipped bare root.
