Photograph Notes: Matthew Furlong was a martyr of the Irish rebellion of 1798 and was killed in the Battle of New Ross when he marched forward with a white flag of truce. This statue of him was unveiled in 1907 in front of an estimated crowd of 20,000 people. It is in Quay Street opposite the Tholsel [[269975]] with The Tholsel Inn behind.
