This used 20 South African rand note was introduced by the South African Reserve Bank 1982-1985. It is a brown and orange note that measures 140 mm x 75 mm and bears the signature of Gerhardus Petrus Christiaan de Kock. Its obverse side features a painting of Bartholomeus Vermyuden that was mistaken to be Jan van Riebeeck and a building façade. Its reverse side shows the national coat of arms and three sailing ships: the Drommedaris, the Goede Hoop, and the Reijiger. Security features include a solid security thread and a van Riebeeck watermark.
