ON DEMAND WE ISSUE A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (money-back-guarantee)
Locket with male miniature portraits on both sides (brothers? friends?). One of the two is a half-portrait of a young gentleman posing with sky in background. It is signed and dated PL...bman 1816, which means that it is an original work of the well-known early-19th-century German / Danish artist, Pinchas (Pineas) Liebman. The second portrait is unsigned and, as we believe, painted by another artist.
The artist, son of Jewish parents, studied in 1797-1805 at the Copenhagen Academy of Fine Arts and in 1807 and 1809 was awarded silver academical medal. At first active as a portrait painter in Copenhagen, he travelled in 1822 to Goeteborg (Sweden), settling finally in Hamburg in 1826.
