Vintage French Christofle Alfenide Silver Plate Flatware Set for Twelve, Forks & Spoons, Ladle, 37 pcs

This elegant vintage 1930’s - 1950’s French flatware set for twelve is made up of 12 dinner spoons, 12 dinner forks, 12 coffee spoons and a ladle. Each piece is marked with the maker’s mark consisting of the name Alfenide below the initials “M” and “A” (Manufacture Alfenide) surrounding the image of a ram’s head. Each piece also bears the silver content in grams: 84 gr. for the dinner forks and spoons, 18 gr. for the coffee spoons and 10 gr. for the ladle. At the end of the 1880’s, the Alfenide Company was bought out by the Maison Christofle. Christofle’s Alfenide factories continued production until the mid-1930’s and were among the suppliers of silverware for the many of the famous French transatlantic liners between 1910-1920. The ladle and the coffee spoons also bear the maker’s mark used from 1935 by the famous Maison Christofle in Paris and consisting of the initials “O.C.” (Orfèvrerie Christofle) surrounding the figure of a knight from a chess set. One coffee spoon is slightly shorter than the others and is monogrammed with the interlaced initials “D.J.”. This set is in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches due to age and normal use. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
