DESCRIPTION:

Jubilee is a fantastic, small blush pink crinum, like a miniature version of Peachblow Improved (a crinum we sell and consider to be our most beautiful crinum).  It has light pink buds and the flower opens wide with recurving tips in white with a pink blush and pink keel (outside of the flower).  It is distinguished by the fact that most of the flowers open at the same time have they have a heavy, spicy scent.  We have recorded blooms in April - July, November, December.  We have observed as many as 10 flowers on scapes to 24" tall but we are told they can grow to 3'.  Our largest bulbs have measured 3 1/2" in diameter.  It grows in tight, compact clumps and offsets readily when in excellent growing conditions with a mature bulb producing several offsets each year.

We grow over 1000 different crinum, including about 350 of our own hybrids.

BACKGROUND:

Jubilee is a hybrid ([c. scabrum x (c. scabrum x c. loddigesianum)].  'Sundance' (c. scabrum x loddigesianumagus) pollen was crossed back on c. scabrum as a seed parent to produce Jubilee.  The hybridizer was the late and famous Luther Bundrant.  This is a rare and little known bulb that some consider to be a "little treasure".

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:

Jubilee is probably a bit more tender than some crinum, however they do fine with our mild freezes into the 20's here northeast Florida, zone 9.  We recommend using some caution below zone 8, maybe keeping them as a pot plant and protecting them from freezing in the winter or in zone 7 mulching them very heavily in the winter and planting them below the level that the ground freezes.  We have also noticed that very small bulbs when transplanted (especially without any roots) have a tendency to rot if the ground is very moist.  Otherwise, Jubilee is very hardy, prolific, can take lots of moisture, maybe even pond culture (one parent, loddigesianum actually grows in very wet areas.  They are an easy to grow bulb requiring no special care...just plant and forget, like most crinum.  It tolerates a wide range of soils but prefers rich soil.  Bulbs can survive nicely out of the ground for very long periods if allowed to dry.  Like most crinum they prefer full sun, but partial shade is OK.
